CSR is a fabless semiconductor manufacturer. (LSE LSE - Language Sensitive Editor :CSR) are to join the British Heart Foundation The British Heart Foundation is a charity organisation in the United Kingdom that funds research, education, care and awareness campaigns aimed to prevent heart diseases in humans. London to Paris sponsored cycle ride taking place 10-12 September 2005. To ensure the team, led by Gordon Petrie, CSR's VP of European Sales, does not end up in Newcastle by mistake, they will be guided on their travels by the TomTom RIDER, the first portable navigation system specifically designed for two wheels, with directions dictated via Bluetooth to a headset. The sponsored ride is being organised by the British Heart Foundation to help fight heart and circulatory disease and is expected to raise a "four figure" sum. The CSR team of four will be one of 30 teams taking part in the three-day relay cycle challenge. Starting in Greenwich, beside the Royal Observatory in London, the riders will go through the Kent countryside before boarding the ferry at Folkestone, and then through sleepy French villages and scenic countryside around Boulogne, before ending in front of the Palace of Versailles. TomTom's new GPS navigation system, the TomTom RIDER fits onto a motorbike or cycle handlebars and, using Bluetooth wireless technology from CSR, dictates directions via a headset fitted in the rider's helmet or worn over the ear. TomTom RIDER also handles phone calls using a Bluetooth headset. The TomTom RIDER is water-resistant and battery operated and also offers a unique glove-friendly touch-screen operation. Other members of Petrie's team include Luke D'Arcy, Product Marketing Manager; Gary Craggs, Cellular Phone Specialist and Alan Woolhouse, VP Communications at CSR. Gordon Petrie, CSR commented, "We're really looking forward to this trip. We are not the world's greatest cyclists so it is likely to be tough - but it really is a great cause so I am sure it will all be worth it if we can raise the sum we're anticipating". Petrie continued, "The TomTom navigation kit with Bluetooth will make sure we don't get lost en-route, and will also allow us to locate nearby vineyards so we can re-hydrate on our way to the French capital." --ends - About CSR CSR plc is the leading global provider of Bluetooth technology and has developed expertise in other single-chip wireless communication standards such as Wi-Fi (IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, New York, www.ieee.org) A membership organization that includes engineers, scientists and students in electronics and allied fields. 802.11). CSR offers developed hardware/software solutions for Bluetooth based around BlueCore, a fully integrated 2.4 GHz radio, baseband and microcontroller. CSR is now producing its fourth generation BlueCore devices. BlueCore4 supports the Enhanced Data Rate (EDR (Enhanced Data Rate) An acronym occasionally used to reflect an advancement in transmission or transfer speed. For example, Bluetooth 2.0 + EDR provides a dramatic increase in speed over the previous version. See Bluetooth. ) standard which was ratified at the end of 2004. BlueCore4 remains the only EDR silicon to be shipping in volume today. In November 2004 CSR launched UniFi, the first single chip 802.11a/b/g embedded solution specifically targeting the mobile phone and consumer electronics markets. BlueCore features in over 50 per cent of all Bluetooth devices shipped and over 60 per cent of all qualified Bluetooth enabled products and modules listed on the Bluetooth website with industry leaders including Nokia, Dell, Panasonic, Sharp, Motorola, IBM (International Business Machines Corporation, Armonk, NY, www.ibm.com) The world's largest computer company. IBM's product lines include the S/390 mainframes (zSeries), AS/400 midrange business systems (iSeries), RS/6000 workstations and servers (pSeries), Intel-based servers (xSeries) , Apple, NEC (NEC Corporation, Tokyo, www.nec.com, www.necus.com) An electronics conglomerate known in the U.S. for its monitors. In Japan, it had the lion's share of the PC market until the late 1990s (see PC 98). NEC was founded in Tokyo in 1899 as Nippon Electric Company, Ltd. , Toshiba, RIM and Sony using BlueCore devices in their range of Bluetooth products. In March 2005, CSR acquired Clarity Technologies Inc., for its Clear Voice Capture (CVC See CSC. ) technology that enhances the audio performance of any voice-based product or system. Applications for CVC include wireless headsets, handsets and automotive hands free systems. CSR has its headquarters in Cambridge, UK, and offices in Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Denmark, Sweden and both Texas and Detroit in the USA.
