CSR Boosts BlueCore5-Multimedia with the Addition of Rubidium's Talking Caller ID TTS.

CAMBRIDGE, England -- CSR plc CSR (LSE: CSR), or Cambridge Silicon Radio is a company based in Cambridge, England whose main product line is a single-chip implementation of the Bluetooth standard for radio-signal communication between devices. CSR is a fabless semiconductor manufacturer.  (LSE LSE - Language Sensitive Editor :CSR (1) (Customer Service Representative) A person who handles a customer's request regarding a bill, account changes or service or merchandise ordered. CSR (LSE:CSR) today announced that its BlueCore5-Multimedia Bluetooth platform is now available with Rubidium's Talking Caller ID A telephone company service that sends the caller's telephone number between the first and second ring of the call. If the calling number is not blocked, the calling number is displayed on the handset or base station of the called party.  text-to-speech (TTS (1) See text-to-speech.

) application. Using Rubidium's embedded TTS technology, Bluetooth headsets and handsfree car kits based on CSR's BlueCore5-Multimedia silicon can now announce the caller's name and number. Users of products enabled with this function will now find it easier and safer to decide whether or not to take a call.

The latest addition to CSR's eXtension Partner Programme, Rubidium's Talking Caller ID TTS uses phonetic technology designed to convert the textual information displayed on a mobile handset into a natural-sounding speech announcement. Designed to enable correct pronunciation of virtually any name, it includes a linguistic analyser and an internal dictionary of thousands of native and foreign names.

Already incorporated into millions of products worldwide, Rubidium's Talking Caller ID technology is optimised to provide natural-speech quality whilst keeping the software and hardware footprint at an affordable size. This software has now been integrated into CSR's silicon, eliminating any need for additional hardware or BOM items.

When, later in the year, Rubidium's speaker independent speech recognition engine is also implemented into the BlueCore-Multimedia platform, products made using these technologies will provide an exceptional voice interactive, handsfree experience.

BlueCore5-Multimedia is the only single-chip Bluetooth platform with a powerful 64 MIPS (Million Instructions Per Second) The execution speed of a computer. For example, .5 MIPS is 500,000 instructions per second; 100 MIPS is a hundred million instructions per second.  DSP (1) (Digital Signal Processor) A special-purpose CPU used for digital signal processing applications (see definition #2 below). It provides ultra-fast instruction sequences, such as shift and add, and multiply and add, which are commonly used in math-intensive  and on-chip memory to support a host of third-party software for enhanced audio capability and expanded functionality to add increased value to mobile handsets, headsets and automotive handsfree systems.

Anthony Murray, Senior Vice President of CSR's Wireless Audio Strategic Business Unit commented, ''Rubidium is an expert in optimising speech-processing technology, and the quality of its Talking Caller ID TTS engine almost speaks for itself. Integrating Rubidium's technology to the programme further strengthens CSR's multimedia Bluetooth portfolio and offers customers cutting-edge technology with the minimum of fuss."

Shlomo Peller, Rubidium's Founder and CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board.  stated, "Consumers are demanding more of their wireless devices, seeking superior quality, user comfort and ease of use. Our partnership with CSR allows us to enhance our product offering further, adding an unbeatable level of value to the automotive, handset and headset industry. Rubidium's Talking Caller ID TTS is already a proven technology. Now combined with CSR's powerful DSP-based architecture, we can offer users an unprecedented level of quality and functionality in handsfree applications."
