The award was presented to CSR for the company's single-chip Bluetooth solution, BlueCore -- recognizing that it is the market leading technology which already features in 70 percent of V1.1 qualified Bluetooth modules.

EDN readers were given the final vote in deciding which innovations would take the awards. CSR's BlueCore01 took the top place in the Communications Category for its single-chip integration of radio, microprocessor and baseband circuits for a 2.4GHz Bluetooth solution. BlueCore is implemented in CMOS (Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor) Pronounced "c-moss." The most widely used integrated circuit design. It is found in almost every electronic product from handheld devices to mainframes.  technology and together with an external Flash ROM Another term for flash memory. Since flash chips can be updated over and over, the ROM (read only) designation is somewhat misleading. "ROM" is used more to mean not volatile than not changeable. See flash memory.

provides a fully compliant Bluetooth system for data and voice communications. The design is optimized to require very few external RF components to allow a rapid design of the motherboard, and therefore the fastest possible time-to-market at the lowest overall cost.

Eric Janson, vice president, CSR, accepted the award and commented, "We are very proud to have won this award which acknowledges CSR's leadership in the Bluetooth market as well as the hard work and dedication of the CSR team over the last four years."
