"This is the second award in as many years for Kragen's efforts in providing free oil reclamation services to its customers," said Terri Buttler, environmental affairs manager for CSK Auto. The company's 1,151 auto parts stores have collected for recycling more than 12 million quarts of used oil in the first eight months of 2005 and 152 million quarts since 1993.

152 million quarts of oil is equivalent to

--filling 1,500 in-ground swimming pools (25,000 gallons each) or

--providing 30.4 million oil changes (5 quarts per vehicle).

, for its role in a joint oil filter exchange/buy back program at Kragen Auto Parts certified collection centers throughout Los Angeles. During this program, more than 27,000 oil filters were collected for recycling.

"CSK Auto has been and continues to be interested in contributing meaningfully toward preservation of the environment," said Buttler. "We look forward to participating in more joint programs like this in the future."

Most of CSK Auto's stores collect used oil and batteries for recycling, and some also accept used oil filters and antifreeze antifreeze, substance added to a solvent to lower its freezing point. The solution formed is called an antifreeze mixture. Antifreeze is typically added to water in the cooling system of an internal-combustion engine so that it may be cooled below the freezing point .
