CSC awarded $9.5 million Department of Education contract.EL SEGUNDO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 4, 1995--Computer Sciences Corp. (NYSE:CSC) has been awarded a five-year contract to provide software engineering and systems integration support to the Department of Education in Washington, D.C. Potential value of the task-order contract, if all options are exercised, is $9.5 million over the full five years. CSC will provide a wide range of computer services to support the department's mainframe computers, microcomputers, local area networks and minicomputers (1) An earlier medium-scale, centralized computer that functioned as a multiuser system for up to several hundred users. The minicomputer industry was launched in 1959 after Digital Equipment Corporation introduced its PDP-1 for $120,000, an unheard-of low price for a computer in those days. Subsequently, a variety of minicomputer systems became available from HP, Data General, Wang, Tandem, Datapoint, Prime Computer, Varian Data and Scientific Data Systems.. Work will be performed by approximately 30 computer scientists, programmers and technicians assigned to CSC's Systems Engineering Division in Falls Church, Va., Rockville, Md., and Washington, D.C.
