CSC appoints Schaer to head new global network initiative.

:CSC) has named Werner Schaer vice president of telecommunications, with the responsibility for leading a new worldwide network initiative to strengthen CSC's leadership in the global network arena.

Prior to his appointment, Schaer headed CSC's former Network Integration Division. In his new position, he will develop a network strategy to help CSC strengthen its telecommunications consulting practice and expand its global network offerings by exploring partnership and alliance opportunities with other network product suppliers, integrators and global telecommunications companies.

In addition, Schaer's office will serve as a clearinghouse for all CSC's network resources and activities in order to streamline, consolidate and enhance the company's internal network operations. He will also help drive the company's Internet strategy, focusing on new applications and consulting services, especially in the area of data security and privacy.

``One of CSC's key goals is to help both business and government clients use information technology globally to achieve strategic results,'' said CSC President and Chief Executive Officer Van B. Honeycutt. ``This network initiative is a critical way to strengthen our global service commitment to clients.''

Schaer has spent more than two decades with CSC. His primary focus has been building and running large-scale and specialized network systems, directing both company operations and marketing activities that support them.
