The new distributed, client-server system will give the company's technicians, along with other BellSouth users, instant access to information about installations and repairs within the BellSouth operating area. At the same time, it will reduce the costs and manpower needed to track and update work orders on a daily basis. The system will also support emerging broadband technologies that will drive BellSouth networks in the future. The system is being developed and tested during a pilot program at a BellSouth operations center in Orlando, Fla. The pilot and regional rollout will take place over an 18-month period.
