CRYPTOCard To Demo Enhanced Security in a Native OS X Environment; CRYPTO-Server Also Provides Mac Users With The First Remote Two-Factor Authentication For Apache Web Servers.

OTTAWA -- Building on its "Best of Show" award at Macworld 2004 for the first authentication solution for the Mac (Nasdaq: AAPL AAPL Apple Computer, Inc. (stock symbol)
AAPL American Association of Professional Landmen
AAPL American Academy of Psychiatry and the Law

), CRYPTOCard, (www.cryptocard.com) the leader in Mac-specific authentication technology, will provide Macworld 2005 attendees with a sneak peak at its latest solution, CRYPTO-Server. CRYPTOCard (booth 1442) will demonstrate CRYPTO-Server's CRYPTO-Logon functionality, which takes Mac OS X authentication to the next level by replacing the traditional Mac log-on screen with a one-time password (security) One-Time Password - (OTP) A security system that requires a new password every time a user authenticates themselves, thus protecting against an intruder replaying an intercepted password. OTP generates passwords using either the MD4 or MD5 hashing algorithms.  protected log-on screen to provide simple "One-PIN-and-You're-In" secure computer access. CRYPTO-Logon also supports "Fast User Switching Fast user switching is a feature on some modern multi-user operating systems such as Windows XP, Windows Vista, Mac OS X, OpenSUSE, Ubuntu and Fedora.[1] It allows users to switch between user accounts on a single PC without quitting applications and logging out. ," which enables more than one user to gain two-factor authenticated access to the same computer.

Incorporating CRYPTOCard's familiar ATM-style protocol, that has proven to eliminate the user resistance usually encountered when organizations attempt to implement an additional layer of security, CRYPTO-Server couples something in the user's possession (a multi-function smart card, hardware token, or software token A software token is a type of two-factor authentication security device that may be used to authorize the use of computer services. Software tokens operate on a general purpose electronic device like a desktop computer, laptop, PDA, or mobile phone. ), with something the user knows (their PIN), to make it simple to positively identify all Mac users attempting VPN (Virtual Private Network) A private network that is configured within a public network (a carrier's network or the Internet) in order to take advantage of the economies of scale and management facilities of large networks.  (Cisco or Apple) or Web-based access. The user simply inserts their smart card and enters their PIN to begin work, and, when the user has finished their session, simply removes their authentication device to lock down the computer.

By generating a unique password for every log-on attempt, CRYPTO-Server makes stolen credentials useless to hackers while simultaneously ensuring users no longer have to memorize complicated credentials - significantly reducing the help-desk costs associated with resetting forgotten passwords, and the obvious security risk resulting from users writing down their passwords.

CRYPTO-Server's CRYPTO-Web functionality provides Mac users with the world's first remote two-factor authentication for Apache Web Servers, while its CRYPTO-VPN module provides Mac users with a natively-integrated end-to-end authentication solution for both Apple's and Cisco's VPN.

"It is becoming increasingly obvious that an organization cannot guarantee system security if it cannot authenticate each individual user - and, with the introduction of CRYPTO-Logon, CRYPTO-Server makes this a simple process for the Mac," explained Malcolm MacTaggart, President & CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board. , CRYPTOCard Corporation. "Understanding that users are attracted to the intuitive, state-of-the-art functionality of the Mac operating system, CRYPTOCard has mirrored these attributes in its latest extremely cost effective and user-friendly Mac-specific solution."

CRYPTO-Server makes it easy for organizations to create a token-deployment database by simply importing existing company directories, while the solution's CRYPTO-Deploy component makes it equally simple for administrators to instantly distribute software tokens from any computer, to any user. CRYPTO-Server's versatile software tokens can reside on a user's desktop, laptop, multi-function smart card, or Pocket PC, while the back-end is hosted on a Panther Server.

CRYPTOCard's CRYPTO-Server Starter Kits are available through Tech Data, along with a wide range of resellers, including Apple's Federal online store.
