BUFFALO GROVE, IL --(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 29, 1996--CRYPTOCard, Inc., a leader in information security, is among the first to fully embrace the Remote Access Dial In User Service (RADIUS) protocol for managing remote access to LANs. Its new easyRADIUS(TM) server provides LAN managers with an easy, single point of administration for managing the growing number of remote users.

Running on Windows NT, easyRADIUS provides a full set of management capabilities including remote user authentication, monitoring, and accounting. The emerging RADIUS standard allows easyRADIUS to centralize these capabilities on LANs with any combination of popular Network Access Servers (NAS). Currently, this list includes devices from Shiva Corporation, Whittaker Xyplex, Inc., and Bay Networks, Inc.

Remote access to LANs is experiencing a widespread increase in popularity. Industry consultant and author, Jack Nilles estimates that telecommuting use is rising 20% annually. Gartner Group forecasts 55 million users will have remote access by the year 2000. This growth places heavy demands on LAN managers who must secure remote access and Internet on-ramps. These pressures are felt acutely by Internet Service Providers (ISPs) as well as corporate and government IS departments alike.

EasyRADIUS allows organizations to expand their telecommuting capabilities and streamline support. The product's combination of RADIUS, Windows NT, and a unique graphical database front-end make centralized management easy to implement. Previously, administrators were forced to deal with a variety of servers, the more complicated Unix operating system, and multiple user databases.

"It took 15 minutes to install and begin using the program," says Chicago-based networking consultant, Vaughn Barnard. EasyRADIUS verifies the remote user's identity with a variety of security options including random password tokens and challenge-response algorithms. Users can be assigned centralized attributes and rights. The system also warns of hacking attempts and features immediate IP blocking for this purpose. The accounting module records user sessions.

Administrators can easily import their existing Unix RADIUS database of names into the easyRADIUS database. Accounting and user databases may be stored in Oracle, Sybase, or any ODBC-supported database.

EasyRADIUS is available from CRYPTOCard and will be available in mid-September from select VARs and distributors, including Xyplex. EasyRADIUS for Windows NT is priced at $3,500 per server for an unlimited number of users. EasyRADIUS is Windows scaleable as companies can easily upgrade through Windows 3.1, 95 and NT. The accounting module is priced separately at $1,500.
