ab·la·tion
n.
 of Atrial Flutter atrial flutter
n.
Rapid regular atrial contractions occurring usually at rates between 250 and 400 per minute and often producing saw-tooth waves in an electrocardiogram. Also called auricular flutter.
using the company's Freezor MAX and Freezor Xtra catheters were presented in Venice, Italy at the Eighth Annual International Workshop on Arrhythmias. Atrial Flutter is the second most commonly ablated arrhythmia arrhythmia (ārĭth`mēə), disturbance in the rate or rhythm of the heartbeat. Various arrhythmias can be symptoms of serious heart disorders; however, they are usually of no medical significance except in the presence of  in the world, with an estimated 55,000 procedures performed each year.

The abstracts summarized a single Italian centre's experience with cryoablation. At the time of presenting the abstract, 143 patients had been treated with no complications. Of the 143 patients, 130 had what is referred to as Typical Atrial Flutter (103 treated with Freezor Xtra; 27 treated with Freezor MAX). The results showed Xtra had an acute success rate of 90%, on par with radiofrequency (RF) ablation of Atrial Flutter. The centre was able to improve the success rate to 100% with MAX, exceeding any published RF data.

"Our centre has now performed a total of 31 flutter ablation cases using Freezor MAX with a 100% acute success rate," said Dr. A.S. Montenero of the Policlinico MultiMedica - Sesto San Giovanni Sesto San Giovanni (sĕ`stō sän jōvän`nē), city (1991 pop. 86,721), Lombardy, N Italy; an industrial suburb of Milan. Manufactures include iron, machinery, chemicals, aircraft, and textiles. , Milan, Italy. "Our overall success rate with cryoablation is similar to RF ablation, but with the advent of Freezor MAX, it's now trending much higher. Importantly, given its superior safety profile combined with the absence of patient discomfort during the procedure, I believe that Freezor MAX is currently the best medical option available to treat Atrial Flutter."

over a larger tip, Freezor MAX allows physicians to make larger, deeper lesions. This product is well suited to treat arrhythmias such as Atrial Flutter and prevalent left-sided arrhythmias, where a more powerful lesion-making catheter is required due to anatomical considerations.

"Freezor MAX is rapidly becoming an increasingly important product in our commercial portfolio as it is gaining significant market and clinical momentum to treat Atrial Flutter," said Steven G. Arless, president and CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board.  of CryoCath. "Atrial Flutter is a major target market with an annual incidence of more than 300,000 patients worldwide. Unfortunately, existing alternatives are neither physician nor patient friendly, so only 25% of cases are ablated. Since Freezor MAX has the potential to effectively treat virtually all flutter cases, we are well positioned to penetrate and grow this market."
