CRUSHED DUMPSTER LEADS PARK RANGERS TO THEORY.

Byline: Daily News

From a distance, the resident ranger at Santa Clarita Woodlands Park wondered Tuesday if a raccoon raccoon, nocturnal New World mammal of the genus Procyon. But a closer look indicated a much larger animal was playing scavenger in the state park west of the Golden State Freeway The Golden State Freeway is a north-south freeway running through Kern County and Los Angeles County, California. ``I think we're going to find a bear around here today,'' Ranger Wayne Dailey said as he surveyed the heavy trash can that had been toppled, its contents strewn strew

A short walk to a parking lot all but proved his theory. The lid to a large Dumpster was crushed, large garbage bags chewed open and more signs suggested that picnickers' trash could be mighty tasty.

The discovery of that mess, and another vandalized garbage can at the park entrance solved one mystery for Dailey. His dog, he said, had awakened him in the night, barking fiercely.

``There was definitely something out here,'' he said. ``The dog was going wild.''
