CRUISES TO PLY MEDITERRANEAN.

SANTA CLARITA Santa Clarita, city (1990 pop. 110,642), Los Angeles co., S Calif., suburb 30 mi (48 km) NW of downtown Los Angeles, on the Santa Clara River; inc. 1987. Situated in the Santa Clara valley and nearby canyons, Santa Clarita includes the former towns of Canyon Country,  - Valencia-based Princess Cruises Princess Cruises is an American cruise line, based out of Santa Clarita, California, that operates cruise ships also shares the same building with Cunard Line headquarters. It is one of the many cruise lines operated by the Carnival Corporation.  is setting sail next year for some of Europe's most romantic ports in the Mediterranean.

Princess plans to deploy two of its largest ships on its Grand Mediterranean journey in 2003. The Golden Princess will return for its third European season, along with sister ship the Grand Princess.

 of this size and quality in the Mediterranean,'' said Dean Brown, Princess' executive vice president of customers and sales, in a release. ``This route is certainly the best itinerary in the region, and our passengers have raved about it. We've committed to doubling departures based on this popularity.''

Both 2,600-passenger ships will sail between Barcelona, Spain, and Venice, Italy, with overnight stays in each city. The ships will also make stops in Monte Carlo Monte Carlo (môNtā` kärlō`), town (1982 pop. 13,150), principality of Monaco, on the Mediterranean Sea and the French Riviera. , Monaco; Livorno on the Gulf of Riga Noun 1. The Golden Princess will sail next year from May 5 through Aug. 21 and the Grand Princess between May 14 and Aug. 30.

In addition to these voyages, each ship will offer a Mediterranean/Atlantic package and two trans-Atlantic sailings that will stop at a number of ports.

The Grand Princess will sail from Fort Lauderdale Fort Lauderdale (lô`dərdāl), residential, commercial, and resort city (1990 pop. 149,377), seat of Broward co., SE Fla., on the Atlantic coast; settled around a fort built (c.1837) in the Seminole War, inc. 1911. , Fla., to Barcelona on May 4 and will make first-time calls in Gibraltar and Alicante, Spain.

The Golden Princess will leave Sept. 2 and the Grand Princess on Sept. 11 to travel between Barcelona and Southampton, England, stopping at Marseille, France; Livorno; Cannes, France; Gibraltar; Casablanca, Morocco; Cadiz, Spain; Lisbon, Portugal; Vigo, Spain; and Le Havre Le Havre

Seaport city (pop., 1999: 190,905), northern France. It lies along the English Channel and the Seine River estuary, northwest of Paris. The second port of France after Marseille, it serves as a base for exports; it is also an important industrial centre.

Passengers can extend their vacation with a number of cruise tour options that combine land tours with their cruises. Destinations include Spain, Tuscany and the French wine country.

Early booking fares for the Mediterranean 12-day cruises begin at $2,340 for travel reserved by Feb. 14. Cruises are open for booking beginning April 8.
