``We have passengers who get a beautiful experience of Alaska, but there is so much more of Alaska in the interior,'' she said. ``This really provides the best of what Alaska has to offer by taking cruises and tour packages.''

An open timber ceiling, a 2 1/2-story window, a stone fireplace and a grand staircase welcome guests into the 85-room grand-lodge hotel along the nearby banks of the Copper and Klutina rivers.

There also is a dining room, as well as an outdoor patio to view Mount Wrangell, Mount Drum and Mount Blackburn and enjoy the dry, warm summer nights the area is known for, Ball said. Temperatures can reach into the upper 70s during the summer months.

Down the Klutina River, fishermen can catch salmon in one of the top 10 fishing rivers in the nation during a half- or full-day trip.

For adventurists, there will be horseback riding, hiking, sightseeing tours and white water or smooth water rafting trips down the Copper River.

Guests also can experience a day of relaxation with a tour of historic Kennecott, Ball said. This is one of Alaska's oldest towns where the tallest wooden structure still stands.

Passengers have a choice of several cruise/tour packages, including a seven-day tour by sea with an option of staying two to seven nights at the lodge.

Reaching the wilderness spot is an adventure of its own.
