CRUISE LINE ANNOUNCES ORDER OF TWO NEW SHIPS.

Princess Cruises Princess Cruises is an American cruise line, based out of Santa Clarita, California, that operates cruise ships also shares the same building with Cunard Line headquarters. , announced Wednesday that it has ordered two new 2,600-passenger ships.

These new orders, plus the cruise line's other three ships under construction, will double its capacity in the next four years. The newest ships - as yet unnamed - will be delivered in the spring and fall of 2001.

The two new ships, each costing approximately $425 million, will bring Princess' expansion to more than $2.5 billion. The additional ships will bring the company's fleet to 13 and reinforce its standing as one of the top three cruise lines

The Grand Princess, which will debut in May in Europe, will be the largest cruise ship on the sea. It will arrive Sept. 24 in New York New York, state, United States

A Princess spokeswoman said it is uncertain what effects the expansion will have on operations at the new headquarters at the Valencia Town Center. Princess is relocating from Century City to a six-story building under construction.

The newest ships will be deployed to the Caribbean year-round. The ships will be constructed at the Fincantieri shipyard in Trieste, Italy, which has built all Princess vessels.
