CRUISE'S `MISSION' SEQUEL START DATE CLOSER TO POSSIBLE.

Byline: Marilyn Beck & Stacy Jenel Smith

Things are back on track for Tom Cruise's ``Mission: Impossible II.''

Last month, members of the film crew were sent home from Australian location when the start of the picture was delayed indefinitely. Now, all snafus have been worked out, and they've been informed they'll be starting the ``Mission'' on April 19.

Meanwhile, the Cruise kids - Isabella, 5, and Connor, 3, - are settled in school in Sydney.

Sarah Jessica Parker, who plays Nell in Universal's upcoming ``Dudley Do Right,'' reveals that her live-action version of Dudley's lady love ``is not as victim-like'' as the original cartoon heroine. ``It's not a contemporary character, but it's a little bit of a different dynamic. She's not quite the damsel in distress that we know Nell to be,'' says Parker, who co-stars in the film with Brendan Fraser.

The film has been pushed up from fall to a July 16 release, where it will face such stiff summer competition as ``Wild, Wild West,'' ``Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged shag 1

Meanwhile, Parker's just begun shooting her second season of HBO's ``Sex and the City.'' She says the network is so hyped about the show's success ``they wanted to do 22 episodes, but I told them that's too much. I think we're going to settle for 18, which I'm happy to do. I've almost never had a better work experience in my life. But it's really hard to do 13 good episodes, let alone 22.''

Having `Faith'

A June production start in New York has been set for Edward Norton's ``Keeping the Faith.'' That's the project Ed's co-producing and directing, in which he and Ben Stiller will play lifelong pals who become a priest and a rabbi rabbi [Heb.,=my master; my teacher], the title of a Jewish spiritual leader. Then, she had second thoughts and withdrew her daughter. ``I said, `That's a fine road for Lovey, but I want you to have a normal childhood. If you have talent, you'll still have it when you grow up.' She went on to love school, and she was an A student.''

Today, of course, ``Party of Five's'' Hewitt is among Hollywood's hot ingenues. And, Lauren says, ``you'll be hearing from my daughter, Summer Healy Chapin. She's a singer, and she's just been signed to a recording contract.''
