What the exhibitors saw was a single scene, shot in front of a mirror, consisting of little more than Cruise and Kidman, his wife, cavorting in the nude. No dialogue, just loud music.

The exhibitors gave the preview from Kubrick's drama of sexual obsession obsession /ob·ses·sion/ (ob-sesh´un) a persistent unwanted idea or impulse that cannot be eliminated by reasoning.obses´sive

Dan Klusmann, editor of the Independent Marketing Edge, a newsletter for independent theater owners, said he was ``baffled'' by the clip. ``It was pretty strange, and I'm not sure what to think of what kind of movie it's going to be.''

Warner Bros. co-chairman Terry Semel Terry Semel (born on February 24, 1943 in Brooklyn, New York, U.S.A.) is a notable American corporate executive who was the chairman and CEO of Yahoo! Semel said the footage was part of a scene from ``Eyes Wide Shut'' and indicated the clip would not be used as a trailer for theaters.

He also said, in something of an understatement, ``this will clearly be an R-rated film.''

Kubrick, who died Sunday from natural causes at 70, had managed to keep secret most of the details of the production. Still, it was a well-known and talked-about project in Hollywood, not the least because of the 15 months it took to complete.

Semel said he and co-chief Robert Daly This page lists notable people named Robert Daly Cultural Figures

Warner plans to release ``Eyes Wide Shut'' on July 16.
