``It's no surprise that this work is being done in Southern California Southern California, also colloquially known as SoCal, is the southern portion of the U.S. state of California. Centered on the cities of Los Angeles and San Diego, Southern California is home to nearly 24 million people and is the nation's second most populated region, ,'' said Virginia Schweninger, vice president of Dellmont Leisure International Inc. ``This is where all the talent and experience for theme park design and construction is, so we can bring in the very best.''

Dellmont beat out four other finalists in the bidding to revamp re·vamp

Besides the model of New York City, Dellmont also will install three 47-seat theaters featuring a six-minute video of a helicopter ride over the city, a video kiosk giving detailed viewing and descriptions of 40 key sights in six languages, a Central Park-theme picnic area with trees and a Sbaro Street food court.

Dellmont Leisure, which began work on the project in late 1995, used 20 subcontractors and about 65 people in Southern California to build the new ``Top of the World,'' which has enough components to fill nine trucks. Each piece was built to fit into the World Trade Center's elevators to the top floor, each with a capacity of 45 people.

Schweninger said the video, ``Manhattan Magic,'' starts at the Statue of Liberty Statue of Liberty

``The film is very low-motion and was shot with the idea that even people in wheelchairs could watch it,'' she said.

Dellmont, which has about a dozen employees, was formed by Schweninger and her husband David in 1994 after leaving theme park specialist Sequoia Creative.
