Valles was drunk when he drove through a stop sign Sunday night Sunday Night, later named Michelob Presents Night Music, was an NBC late-night television show which aired for two seasons between 1988 and 1990 as a showcase for jazz and eclectic musical artists. and hit a car driven by Guadalupe Flores Flores, town, Guatemala Flores (flōrəs), town (1990 est. pop. 2,200), capital of Petén department, N Guatemala. Valles crawled out of a window but barely got a block before a group of about 10 men ran him down, police said. Fernando Marquez of North Hollywood and Louis Melendez of Reseda detained Valles and one of the passengers, Aurand said. ``They chased him down and held him for police,'' Aurand said, adding that Valles was arrested at Van Nuys Jail, not on the street. ``He was removed for his safety because a hostile crowd was at the scene.'' The passenger who also was caught was not arrested, police said. Witnesses said the scene was reminiscent of the ``Night Stalker'' capture, referring to murderer Richard Ramirez
Maria Pereyra, 25, who lives on the corner of Archwood and Beck, said her father was among the group that chased Valles and his two passengers as they ran down the street of the residential neighborhood. ``The driver, he was staggering all over the place,'' Pereyra said. ``Everyone was really angry. They were ready to jump him.'' Valles was booked on suspicion of felony driving under the influence of alcohol and held on $50,000 bail. Aurand said detectives will ask the District Attorney or City Attorney's office to pursue that and a felony hit-and-run charge when they present the case today. Valles claimed he drank 2-1/2 beers, Aurand said, adding that the suspect's blood alcohol level was ``more than double, almost triple'' the legal limit of .08 percent. Campos and Pereyra said there have seen a lot of incidents at the corner, where there are stop signs along Archwood but none on Beck. ``We had a car slam into our wall here. No one seemed to notice,'' Pereyra said, pointing to the corner of her apartment closest to the street. ``Maybe they'll put those stop signs in now.'' Aurand said police appreciate help from the community but don't encourage citizens to get involved the way Marquez and Melendez did. ``It's always a potentially dangerous situation because you don't know Don't know (DK, DKed) "Don't know the trade."
