, came into the squad for Saturday's friendly with Slovenia and the potentially decisive World Cup qualifier with Croatia on September 9. But as Capello broke with his normal policy of four strikers to add a fifth, it left Owen - who had hoped his move to United would bring him back into the frame - apparently even further away from the Italian's World Cup thoughts.

While Crouch - 14 goals in 17 England starts - netted his first Premier League goal for Spurs in the 2-1 win over Birmingham on Saturday, he once again came on as sub.

In fact, 6ft 7ins Crouch has played just 81 minutes of league action for Harry Redknapp - all of them off the bench.

Lennon's recall in place of injured Theo Walcott was expected, and he'll contest the right-wing spot for both games with ex-skipper David Beckham.

Brown, the only other change, replaces injured club mate Rio Ferdinand.
