CROSSWALK CAMPAIGN DEBUTS OFFICIALS AIM TO PREVENT COLLISIONS THAT HAVE KILLED 37 PEDESTRIANS IN VALLEY.

Alarmed by the deaths of 37 pedestrians in the San Fernando Valley San Fernando Valley

The Sherman Oaks Chamber, the Valley Traffic Advisory Council and the Mid-Valley Police Council contributed a total of $1,500 for the decal program. If it is successful, it will be expanded departmentwide, Meyer said.

Police said 37 pedestrians have died so far this year, about 20 more than were killed during the comparable period in 1998.

Among the most recent was Anne Klugman, 92, of Van Nuys, who died Sunday following a hit-and-run collision with a green, four-door 1992 Lincoln Town Car The Lincoln Town Car is a rear wheel drive full-size luxury sedan and serves as the flagship of Ford's Lincoln luxury car division. Klugman's daughter-in-law, Stella, urged witnesses to contact Detective Jamie Weaver at (818) 756-8391.

``I'm both angry and sorry for the (driver),'' she said. ``I would just like this person to come forward, admit what happened and to make very sure this person never gets involved in something like this again.''

Of the 37 pedestrian-related fatalities this year, 13 occurred in the LAPD's Van Nuys Division, seven in Devonshire, six each at Foothill and North Hollywood, and five at West Valley.
