Tina and Tim Lamoureux will make the cross-country road trip beginning Aug. 29 and are estimating it will take them six to eight weeks.

``We were following the story on Deputy Steve Sorensen,'' said Tina Lamoureux, 24. ``We heard he was a really good cop; you couldn't ask for a better cop. We decided to do it for his family, to raise money and help his family out. All we are asking is for people to make donations to the fund already set up by the Sheriff's Department.''

Sorensen, 46, a Lake Los Angeles resident, was killed Aug. 2 as he was following up on a trespassing investigation at an isolated desert trailer home occupied by Donald Kueck, 52.

Sorensen was honored Aug. 7 in a funeral at Lancaster Baptist Church that attracted some 3,000 mourners.

Sorensen was married and had an adopted 2-year-old son. Friends said he went far beyond the usual police duties: He bought groceries gro·cer·y

He and his wife, Christine, moved to Lake Los Angeles in 1991.

The Lamoureuxes moved to the Antelope Valley from Orlando about a year ago and worked at a paint and body shop.

``Basically we are originally from Orlando. We came out to California on vacation, decided we liked it and we just stayed here,'' Tina Lamoureux said.

The couple have ridden their bikes around the Antelope Valley, their longest trip to date about 125 miles. They will try to ride 100 miles a day and camp out at campgrounds along the way.
