CROSS COUNTRY NOTES: BLEVINS SET FOR ACTION : SHOWDOWN WITH KIRKENDALL POSTPONED FROM LAST WEEKEND.

Byline: Kirby Lee Special to the Daily News

The showdown between Shell Blevins of Quartz Hill and Rosanna Kirkendall of Lancaster was put on hold after illness forced Blevins to withdraw from last week's Golden League meet.

Blevins, the defending Golden League champion, will be back in action on Saturday for the Rebels in the Kenny Staub Invitational in·vi·ta·tion·al

``I am really mad about (missing the meets), but I am anxious to go out there and run,'' Blevins said.

In the absence of Blevins, Kirkendall, a Southern Section Division I finalist at 1,600 meters as a junior last season, posted a comfortable victory in the first of three league meets.

Despite the absence of Blevins, Quartz Hill, lifted by the 2-3 finish of junior Jenny Yadon and freshman Tarah Novelli, went 5-0 in the combined league competition last Wednesday scored as dual meets between each of the schools, with Lancaster in second at 4-1.

Sister, sister: Blevins has been joined on the Quartz Hill cross country team this fall by her sister, Laura, after encouragement from Shell. Although swimming was her primary sport, cross country would seem to be a logical choice for Laura, a junior.
