The state cross country championships is the benchmark competition for the Quartz Hill High girls.

The battle for region supremacy will be decided when the squads go head to head in the team sweepstakes race of the Mt. San Antonio College Mt. San Antonio College (commonly called Mt. SAC; pronounced as the word "sack") is a community college located in the Los Angeles suburb of Walnut, California, next to California State Polytechnic University, Pomona which is just over a hill.

 on Saturday. The two-day meet, the largest in the nation with nearly 10,000 runners, will be the final meeting between Canyon, the state's No. 3 team in Division II, and Quartz Hill, sixth in Division I.

It is a rivalry that figures to continue in upcoming years with both teams heavily laden with freshmen.

Quartz Hill and Canyon finished 1-2 in the season-opening Seaside Invitational in Ventura in September. Quartz Hill posted a team time for its five scoring runners 31 seconds faster than Canyon.

Quartz Hill, which is closing in on its second Golden League title in three seasons, has been boosted by the addition of freshmen Lacey Troth, Amanda O'Neal and Amanda Morgan.

Seniors Jenny Yadon and Katie Schettig were members of the 1997 Quartz Hill team that placed fourth in the state Division I final. Sophomore Tarah Novelli has consistently been among the Rebels' top five.

Quartz Hill was second in the Division I race of the Stanford Invitational and captured the large-schools race of the Clovis Invitational run at Woodward Park Woodward Park (34 acres) is a public park, botanical garden, and arboretum located between 21st Street and 24th Street, Tulsa, Oklahoma, USA. --Desert Storm: Desert Christian will compete in the boys' and girls' Division V sweepstakes on Friday in the Mt. SAC Invitational. The girls, who are seeking their fourth state-meet appearance, are ranked fifth with the seniors Bethany Spoelstra and Deann Matteson, along with junior Jessica Lembo and sisters Claytonia, a sophomore, and freshman Nadia Tarazi.
