Coronado's victory at Thursday's Foothill League finals was the first by a Hart High runner in 10 seasons.

He almost would've won the title in a Burbank High uniform.

Coronado lived with his mother in Fresno for part of his sophomore year. When she moved to Burbank, he decided to return to living with his father in Newhall.

``It feels great,'' Coronado said about winning. ``It was my goal. There was a lot of pressure today. I knew (Saugus High's Derek Somerville) was going to be right up there. I knew I had to have something at the end.''

Coronado said he'd like to run for Brigham Young University Brigham Young University, at Provo, Utah; Latter-Day Saints; coeducational; opened as an academy in 1875 and became a university in 1903. It is noted for its law and business schools.  next year.

--Tough competitor: Saugus High sophomore Katie Dunn finished second in the two regular-season Foothill League meets. She was third at the finals on Thursday, but it may have been her best performance of the year.

Dunn hadn't run in more than two weeks because of injuries.

``She gut gut (gut)

it out,'' Saugus coach Rene Paragas said. ``We couldn't have asked for anything more.''

--Streaks: Canyon's girls have won 12 consecutive Foothill League titles. The boys' streak of six was snapped this year.

Canyon coach Dave DeLong had one word to describe the girls' team's performance, placing all five scoring runners in the top seven.

``Wow,'' he said.

--Captain, my captain: Golden Valley High's captain isn't one of the team's older runners, or even on its varsity. Sophomore Fred Tami TAMI Cardiology A series of clinical trials–Thrombolysis & Angioplasty in Myocardial Infarction designed to examine the role of angioplasty, urokinase, heparin, and prostacyclin in managing acute MI. ``He is the leader of this team,'' Golden Valley High head coach Gary Williamson said. ``He's always at practice early, always makes sure everyone is doing what they're supposed to. He's always reading about (running), trying to find out as much as he can. He showed himself to be a leader last year, so I had to pick him for captain. Even the runners that are faster than him look up to him.''

Tami, who moved to the United States United States, officially United States of America, republic (2005 est. pop. 295,734,000), 3,539,227 sq mi (9,166,598 sq km), North America. The United States is the world's third largest country in population and the fourth largest country in area.  from Syria before he entered sixth grade, loves to lead. It's why he wants to go to West Point one day.

Tami, also a captain on the track team, is actually fast enough to run for Golden Valley High's varsity, but that team is made up solely of the five juniors on the roster.

Williamson estimates Tami is the fourth- or fifth-fastest runner on the team.

Tami had never run competitively before coming to the United States, preferring to ride his bike. He also didn't speak much English, knowing little more than the alphabet alphabet [Gr. alpha-beta, like Eng. ABC], system of writing, theoretically having a one-for-one relation between character (or letter) and phoneme (see phonetics). Few alphabets have achieved the ideal exactness. .

He called learning the language, ``easy.'' He seemed to pick up running with the same ease. After running in P.E. classes, teachers soon convinced him to go out for the middle school's cross-country team, which was led by current Saugus coach Rene Paragas.

``My favorite My Favorite is an independent synthpop band from Long Island, New York. They released two CDs: Love at Absolute Zero and Happiest Days of Our Lives. My Favorite broke up on September 14, 2005, when singer Andrea Vaughn left the band.  part of running is the feeling you get after you run, how you're proud of yourself and what you finished,'' Tami said. ``That feeling makes my whole day good.''
