CROSS COUNTRY ADVANCE: RUNNERS TO DUEL AT MT. SAC.

Two years ago at the Mt. San Antonio College Mt. San Antonio College (commonly called Mt. SAC; pronounced as the word "sack") is a community college located in the Los Angeles suburb of Walnut, California, next to California State Polytechnic University, Pomona which is just over a hill.

 Invitational cross country meet, groundskeepers filled muddy patches with sand, an added obstacle that the region's top runners didn't exactly welcome with open arms.

This year, recent rains again have impacted the route at Mt. SAC in Walnut. But Poop Out poop 1

Racing begins today with Divs. III, IV and V and continues Saturday with Divs. I and II and the sweeps races. In the boys' races, 45 of the top 50 ranked teams in Southern Section Divs. I-V I-V Current/Voltage  are registered to run. There are 44 of the top 50 girls' teams entered.

Top area teams will use the invitational as a trial run for the Southern Section prelims, slated in three weeks at Mt. SAC. Loyola of Los Angeles' Mark Matusak, the boys' sweeps winner last year in 14 minutes, 33 seconds, plans to do so.

``In as much as it's a CIF (1) (Common Intermediate Format) A standard video format used in videoconferencing. CIF formats are defined by their resolution, and standards both above and below the original resolution have been established. The original CIF is also known as Full CIF (FCIF).  course, it's a huge advantage,'' Loyola coach Lalo Diaz said. ``And it's a good high-water mark, as far as where we are in our training.''

Matusak and Corona's Alma Escobar are among the favorites in the boys' and girls' sweeps races Saturday. Highland of Palmdale's Alyssa Craft also is expected to be in contention.

The boys' team favorite is Royal of Simi Valley. Canyon of Canyon Country, Thousand Oaks and Highland will contend in the girls team race.
