CROSS COUNTRY : NEIPP AMONG WINNERS AT SANTA CLARITA.Byline: Danny Schumacher Daily News Staff Writer Last cross country season, Highland High School's Andrea Neipp was running all alone in a noninvitational race at the Mt. San Antonio College Mt. San Antonio College (commonly called Mt. SAC; pronounced as the word "sack") is a community college located in the Los Angeles suburb of Walnut, California, next to California State Polytechnic University, Pomona which is just over a hill. Neipp cruised over the three-mile course, outdistancing runner-up Fleshman by 34 seconds while finishing in 17 minutes, 51 seconds. Fleshman took second in 18:25 with Day, Neipp's Golden League rival, taking third in 18:36. Harris (18:43), the defending Foothill League champion, edged Schweitzer (18:50), the 1994 Foothill champ, for fourth. Steve Barrus of Clovis High in Fresno won the boys' large-school race, edging Palmdale's Jacob Geyer. Barrus was timed in 15:46 while Geyer finished in 15:47. Clovis' top five runners - Chrisie Gregory (eighth, 19:25), Kym Pilger (ninth, 19:27), Kristin Fairley (10th, 19:54), Lindsey Hahn (11th, 20:09) and Tianna Martinez (12th, 20:13) - finished with a remarkable 48 seconds separating the first runner from the fifth runner. That split Canyon's top five of Fleshman (second, 18:25), Harris (fourth, 18:43), Jean Drummond (15th, 20:24), Erin White (16th, 20:24) and Jasmine Citrone (20th, 20:38). |
