If one Blevins was not already enough for the Golden League to handle, the Quartz Hill High girls' cross country team has added another this fall.

Rebels have dominated the Golden League with junior Shell Blevins, the defending individual league champion and a member of the Rebels' 1997 State Division I finalist team.

This season, Shell is joined by her half sister Laura. A former swimmer who lived in New Jersey, Laura, also a junior, has moved to Antelope Valley This article is about the Los Angeles County region. For the census-designated place in Wyoming, see Antelope Valley-Crestview, Wyoming.

for her final two years of high school. While Shell has yet to compete in league competition this fall because of illness, Laura has helped keep the Rebels in contention for their third league title in a row.

Laura started the season as Quartz Hill's fifth runner but was the Rebels' No. 1 runner in the second Golden League meet two weeks ago and finished third overall.

``I knew she had a lot of potential,'' Shell said. ``She is a strong person and doesn't care how much pain there is.''

Quartz Hill will be at full strength in Golden League competition with both Blevins sisters in the championships Wednesday at Pelona Vista Park.

``We've always tried to have the girls together, it was great when the opportunity for this arose,'' said father Kevin Blevins, the Quartz Hill girls' cross country coach. ``When I am out there, I see the girls as runners. I treat them as part of the group, but I do have a lot of pride to see both of them do well.''

Laura is hardly a stranger to Quartz Hill, where she has had her own bedroom for the last 10 years. Although she stayed with her mother Grace Holman during the school year, Laura visited her father during the summer and holidays since kindergarten kindergarten [Ger.,=garden of children], system of preschool education. Friedrich Froebel designed (1837) the kindergarten to provide an educational situation less formal than that of the elementary school but one in which children's creative play instincts would be . The last two summers, Laura also accompanied the cross country team to Mammoth mammoth, name for several large prehistoric elephants of the extinct genus Mammuthus, which ranged over Eurasia and North America in the Pleistocene epoch.  for the annual running camp.

Laura grew so fond of running with the Quartz Hill cross country team during the summer, she decided to forgo swimming to compete in cross country and track as a sophomore at Northern Burlington County High last year.

courses this fall, moving is nothing new. Her three-year stay in New Jersey was the longest Laura had resided in one place. She was born in Washington and has lived in Australia, Germany, Utah, Rhode Island Rhode Island, island, United States

``When I was younger, it did not bother me moving, but it got really hard to move from New Jersey to leave my friends,'' Laura said. ``I wanted a stable life. I knew a lot of people because I have been coming here my whole life. I feel right at home.''

It's not much different on the cross country course. In addition to Shell and her father, her stepmother Cindi Blevins is the president of Quartz Hill's cross country booster club A booster club is an organization that is formed to contribute money to an associated club, sports team, or organization. ``I am not used to having my parents come to the meets, cheering and wishing me good luck,'' Laura said. ``It really helps you run (having) someone supporting me.''

Shell is also glad to have Laura aboard. In addition to a training partner, Laura, a 4.0 grade-point average, has helped Shell in the classroom. The sisters, who were born three days apart, have a similar curriculum this fall, including classes in advance placement classes in English and psychology.
