RANGERS are facing an injury nightmare as the title race reaches its climax.

Pedro Mendes was the latest Ibrox star to be crocked during yesterday's 3-0 Scottish Cup semi-final win over St Mirren.

He was stretchered off after a high challenge with Buddies' defender Will Haining.

Now Rangers have an anxious 24-hour wait to find out just how serious the injury is. Mendes joins Barry Ferguson, Kevin Thomson and DaMarcus Beasley on the Ibrox crocks list.

And if Mendes' knee injury does put him out of action for any length of time, Rangers will be struggling badly in midfield with crucial home games against Hearts and Celtic coming up in the next fortnight.

Rangers assistant manager Ally McCoist said: "Pedro is very sore but the immediate reaction is that there is no ligament damage.

"He has been iced up and there is a strapping on it but we will wait and see how the injury is over the next 24 hours." McCoist absolved St Mirren defender Will Haining of blame for the injury.

Mendes has been nominated for the SPL (1) (Systems Programming Language) The assembly language for the HP 3000 series. See assembly language for an SPL program example.
