Noteworthy performances: We have to buy Williams' endearing quirkiness to buy the show's whole premise, but she's trying too hard to accentuate her adorability. And - we also have to buy that she's incongruously in love with the pompous guy? But the most pity is reserved for ``Bob Newhart Show'' veteran Suzanne Pleshette as Feuerstein's ``colorful'' grandmother.

Inadvertent laughs: Let's make this clear: There are no laughs in tonight's episode. And were it possible, there'd be even fewer next week. Being this relentlessly unfunny would seem to require more effort than actually coming up with one so-so gag.

Who should lose their job: Creators/executive producers Max Mutchnick and David Kohan, who need to be sent back to prevent their earlier brainchild ``Will & Grace'' from taking the same nose-dive this is destined des·tine
