No, it's not a horror film: She stars as Mackenzie Allen, an independent who was recruited for the vice presidential slot on the Republican ticket. In a nutshell: As soaringly idealistic as ``The West Wing'' was when it first aired. But subsequent post-9/11-and-Katrina concerns and/or cynicism might affect this show in the same manner in which real-world situations diminished ``The West Wing.'' Our rating: Two and one half stars ``Sex, Love & Secrets'' (UPN UPN User Principal Name (Microsoft Windows 2000) UPN United Paramount Network UPN Unión del Pueblo Navarro (Navarrese People Union) UPN Umgekehrte Polnische Notation Channel 13; 9 tonight) Logline: Opening narration cribbed directly from ``Desperate Housewives'' (down to the same archly droll female voice) announces: ``Since the dawn of time, humans have lived in groups, like the rest of the animal kingdom. Yet, unlike other animals, the forming of human groups spawns unique behavior, curious manifestations of human interactions. One such behavior is the keeping of secrets.'' What that has to do with the sundry complicated romantic couplings among a bunch of Silver Lake 20-somethings may be revealed over the course of the series. Or not. Denise Richards, Eric Balfour, Lucas Bryant, Lauren German, Omar Benson Miller, James Stevenson and Tamara Taylor hop in and out of one another's beds. Pros: Neighborhood club Spaceland will make some money as a central location, but now that Silver Lake has officially if artificially been tapped by a TV show as ``hip,'' it'll go on the downswing down·swing n. 1. Cons: UPN offered up two episodes of this crassness to sit through, but only one of ``Everybody Hates Chris Everybody Hates Chris is an African-American sitcom, on The CW Television Network. In a nutshell: There's cool, and there's phony, and there's phony cool, and there's so-phony-it's-cool. And then, there's this - so phony-cool that half the target audience will watch for derisive laughter and half will want to slit their wrists. You'd swear no one associated with this show ever lived in Silver Lake - or through their 20s. Our rating: One star CAPTION(S): 2 photos Photo: (1) Greena Davis (2) Denise Richards |
