CREWS DOUSE REMNANTS OF PIRU BLAZE.

Crews mopped up the weekend's deadly Piru wildfire on Monday, dousing hotspots from a blaze that consumed 2,500 acres west of Santa Clarita Santa Clarita, city (1990 pop. 110,642), Los Angeles co., S Calif., suburb 30 mi (48 km) NW of downtown Los Angeles, on the Santa Clara River; inc. 1987. The fire, sparked Saturday by a ricocheting bullet from a nearby shooting range, claimed the life of a state prison inmate working on the fire lines, Ventura County fire officials reported.
