Situated in the Santa Clara valley and nearby canyons, Santa Clarita includes the former towns of Canyon Country,  - Settling winds and cooler temperatures helped firefighters Tuesday gain the upper hand on the Bouquet Canyon fire, officials said.

``When the winds are favorable, it makes it easier to secure those areas,'' said Kathy Peterson, an Angeles National Forest The Angeles National Forest (ANF) was established by executive order on December 20, 1892 as the San Gabriel Timberland Reserve. The fire started shortly after 10:30 a.m. Saturday on Bouquet Canyon Road, south of the Bouquet Reservoir Bouquet Reservoir is a reservoir in Los Angeles County, California about 15 miles (24 km) west of the city of Palmdale.

More than 1,000 firefighters assisted by about 10 aircraft fought the blaze as flames came within feet of several homes, though only two small structures, a shed and an outhouse, were lost.

Two men received minor injuries, officials said.

Cid Morgan, a Santa Clara/Mojave Rivers Ranger, thanked the city of Santa Clarita and local residents for allowing the U.S. Forest Service to utilize Central Park as its incident command post According to the National Incident Management System (NIMS), and the Incident Command System (ICS), the Incident Command Post (ICP) is one of five predesignated temporary facilities and signifies the physical location of the tactical-level, on-scene incident command and management  during the fire.

``We realize that many people had plans to use the park, especially on Sunday, May 12, Mother's Day and changed their plans on a moment's notice to make room for the firefighters and their support facilities,'' Morgan said in a statement. ``You patience and understanding during this emergency was greatly appreciated.''
