CREW GIVE FARM SITE A CLEAN-UP.


THESE sailors made sure everything was shipshape.

The crew of HMS Dauntless Five ships of the Royal Navy have been named HMS Dauntless:
  • The first Dauntless was an 18-gun sloop launched at Hull, England in November 1804. In 1807 she ran aground during a battle in the Vistula River and was forced to surrender to the French.

 two fields at the Ouseburn Farm Community Project by cutting down trees and brambles.

The farm has just been given permission to bring back animals to the site.

It replaces Byker City Farm which closed in 2003 after the land - once the site of a lead works - was found to be contaminated.

Now work can go ahead to create a barn and pens with sheep, goats and pigs which are due in summer.

The Royal Navy crew cleared scrub from fields which will be used to graze the farm animals.

The team will also help to clean and paint benches in Leazes Park, Newcastle.

Cmdr Giulian Hill, senior commanding officer of HMS Dauntless, said: "The visit to Newcastle is a key event in our calendar."

Type-45 destroyer HMS Dauntless was launched in January 2007 and adopted by the city after HMS Newcastle was decommissioned in 2004.
