CRESPI TAKES SHARE OF MISSION LEAGUE LEAD.

Byline: Lee Barnathan Daily News Staff Writer

It was just the first Mission League soccer game of the season, so a victory might not mean too much. But for Crespi High School, beating visiting Alemany 2-0 Wednesday meant plenty.

The victory gave the Celts The following pages provide lists of nations or people of Celtic origin, arranged by branch of Celtic ethnicity or language grouping:

(6-2-1) as many wins as in their last two seasons combined, and their 25 goals scored is the team's most since 1988-89.

The 1985-86 team was last Crespi squad to spend a day in first place. That team won the Del Rey Del Rey may refer to:

``We're not used to it at Crespi,'' said junior midfielder

``It feels good, and I hope that, along with the team, we can keep it up and win league,'' said junior forward Justin Canel, who assisted on the first goal and scored the second goal, his 12th.

The Celts might want to enjoy first place while they can because they travel to league favorite Loyola on Friday.

``Oh, man,'' Canel said. ``I'm not gonna gon·na

The rest of the league might want to worry. The team's success is based in its 10-member junior class.

``The biggest thing is they're growing up,'' Crespi second-year coach Rob Kodama said. ``Last year, they were like kids playing men. . . . You're looking for Looking for

Depth has also aided the Celts. Sahgal missed the last two weeksbecause he was visiting family in India. Midfielder Justin Spina was out with a torn quadriceps quadriceps /quad·ri·ceps/ (kwod´ri-seps) having four heads.

Still, the one game they missed, Dec. 30 against Burroughs, resulted in a 3-1 Crespi victory. Wednesday was the first game since, with very few practices in between.

``We go all the way down the bench,'' Kodama said. ``Some of the guys who didn't get in are pretty good players.''

Crespi's defense made life easy for goalie Chris Merritt Chris Merritt (born 1952, Oklahoma City) is an opera singer. The defense even got into the scoring, as Armando Nila assisted on Canel's goal.

Alemany (2-8, 0-1) goalie Eddy Cicoria was busy, making four saves and stopping several crosses.
