CRESPI PUSHES AHEAD : CRESPI 12, LOYOLA 0.

Byline: Gary Washburn Daily News Staff Writer

Coach Scott Muckey insists that his Crespi High School baseball team's slump is of the distant past.

It took two innings to prove that to Loyola, the first-place team in the Mission League. And it will take two more wins to erase the ``under-achieving'' tag placed on the Celts The following pages provide lists of nations or people of Celtic origin, arranged by branch of Celtic ethnicity or language grouping:

The Celts scored 11 runs in the first two innings, led by Chris Crawley's three hits, in a 12-0 win over Loyola Friday at Valley College.

``We've been playing well since the first Mission League series,'' Muckey said. ``I've been very pleased. We've lost some tough games.''

Crespi scored five first-innings runs off Loyola starter Mike Giampaolo, then backed it up with six in the second. What was a crucial game for Loyola turned into garbage time Garbage time, also known as "junk time", is a term used in American sports (most commonly, basketball and football) parlance to refer to the period of time at the end of a timed sporting event when the outcome of the game has already been decided, and the coaches of one or both .

Crespi starter Brian Felten (6-1) pitched six innings of five-hit ball in front of a surprised crowd that included USC An abbreviation for U.S. Code.  coach Mike Gillespie There are 3 sports coaches with the name Mike Gillespie:

.

The junior has proved to be a quality starter for Crespi (17-6, 6-4), which after being swept by Chaminade in the league opener, finds itself in the thick of the playoff race.

``Brian pitched well and it helps when you have five runs,'' Muckey said. ``I think we all relaxed after the first two innings.''

Loyola (18-6, 8-2) needed to win Friday to cement its chances at the league title. The Cubs have a half-game lead over Chaminade (7-2-1) with two to play and must play third-place St. Francis while Chaminade plays Alemany.

``There is definitely more pressure now,'' Loyola coach Kelly Nicholson said. ``Crespi's a great team, and after it scored 11 runs, we had to think realistically.''

Crespi, meanwhile, needs to sweep Notre Dame next week to ensure a playoff spot.
