Four-time Mission League champion Crespi of Encino, seeded in the Southern Section Div. VI dual-meet wrestling finals for a second consecutive year, suffered an early an early exit for the second year in a row.

 lost decisions in six of the first seven weight-classes of their tournament opener with at-large entry Perris, then waged a tremendous rally, only to be eliminated in the final bout of the match at Santiago High in Garden Grove.

Crespi, trailing by 32 points entering the eighth match, put together six consecutive victories, before losing at 135 pounds, as Perris advanced with a 39-36 decision.

Lamar Reed (152) won a decision for Crespi's only victory in the first seven matches. Then, Sione Fua (275), Scott Massey (105), Luis Munoz (114), Brandon Morris (119), Jonathan Artner (125) and Gary Espinosa, Jr. (130) put together the winning streak for the Celts, before Perris prevailed in the match-closing 135-pound weight class.

Mission League runner-up Alemany of Mission Hills was eliminated before competition began Saturday for failure to comply with the Southern Section's new certification program.
