to care about volleyball. Some hadn't even heard of Crespi or volleyball.

But they all knew the significance of Tuesday night's 2 hour, 54 minute match. By beating Harvard-Westlake 15-13, 10-15, 15-8, 14-16, 15-11, the Crespi players ended a long drought and moved into first place in the Mission League, half a game ahead of idle Loyola.

For James Spratt, the win was extra special. His older brother, Brian, played at Harvard-Westlake and transferred to Crespi his junior year. Brian badly wanted to beat his former teammates but never did.

In fact, many hitters had career or near-career nights. Marcin Jagoda had 18 kills, five blocks and four aces. Steadman had 13 kills and Jonathan Bird had 11 kills. Even Kevin Scully, who played in visible pain with a pulled back muscle, added nine kills.

It wasn't so bad a night for Harvard-Westlake (6-3, 3-2), either. Will Curtis and Jon Katz This article is about the technology and dog writer. For the queer studies professor, see Jonathan D. Katz. For the actor, see Jonathan Katz. For the historian, see Jonathan Ned Katz.

Harvard-Westlake also overcame a 9-2 deficit to win the fourth game and turned a 12-1 fifth game into a tight 12-10 contest.
