CRESPI IS UNDEFEATED LARGELY BECAUSE OF ITS STINGY DEFENSE.

Byline: Patrick Hipes Daily News Staff Writer

Everyone at Crespi might be talking about the Celts' new wing-T offense, but it's the defense that has put them in a position to enter their crucial Week 4 showdown with No. 1 Notre Dame Notre Dame IPA: [nɔtʁ dam] is French for Our Lady, referring to the Virgin Mary. In the United States of America, Notre Dame  undefeated.

In its opening-week 6-3 victory over Chaminade, Crespi (2-0) held the Eagles to 48 yards rushing and 184 total yards. After the game, Crespi coach Tim Lins was at a loss for words when asked about his rugged defense.

``I really don't know Don't know (DK, DKed)

moment. ``I just think we play solid defense, especially in crucial situations.''

Friday's victory showed just that. Linebacker Mike Sharp recovered a Quartz Hill fumble in the end zone on the game's opening drive. On the Rebels' final drive, defensive back Brian Obringer sacked quarterback Erik Holtfreter twice.

The Celts play host to Lancaster this week. The Eagles (1-1), in their first season of varsity football, shut out Sultana 7-0 on Friday for the first win in school history.

It should be an intriguing matchup. No. 5 Hart (2-0) has yet to be truly tested - the Indians have allowed just seven points in victories over Thousand Oaks Thousand Oaks, residential city (1990 pop. 104,352), Ventura co., S Calif., in a farm area; inc. 1964. The Warriors (1-1), who rebounded from a 20-19 loss to Buena in Week 1 with a 29-0 victory against Ventura on Friday, are led by sophomore quarterback Zac Wasserman. He threw for 343 yards against Buena and 255 more against Ventura.

Other best bets: No. 2 Sylmar (2-0) at Antelope Valley This article is about the Los Angeles County region. For the census-designated place in Wyoming, see Antelope Valley-Crestview, Wyoming.

The Antelope Valley
(1-1) - The Valley Pac-8 Spartans are tough against the run (allowing 73 yards on the ground in two games) and the Antelopes rushed for four scores in a 33-27 victory against Barstow, a game they led 33-0 at halftime.

Dorsey (2-0) at No. 3 Taft (1-0) - The Toreadors had a bye over the weekend after shutting out Banning 27-0 in Week 1. It will be speed vs. speed in this one.

Granda Hills bad luck:The next time a friend whines after getting a paper cut, simply remind him or her of Granada Hills' plight.

Add to that Jory Goldberg's hyperextended elbow and it presents problems.

``I don't know, it's dumb luck,'' coach Brad Ratcliff said. ``These are guys I was counting on all season. It's just incredible.''

That's production:Monroe running back Vinny Walker rushed for 189 yards on 19 carries in the Vikings' 41-14 victory over Hoover in Week 1. That's 9.9 yards per carry - not too shabby shab·by
