CRESPI EXPECTING ROUGH TIME ON ROAD.

Byline: Vincent Bonsignore Staff Writer

Over the summer, Andrew Moore For other persons named Andrew Moore, see Andrew Moore (disambiguation).

Andrew Moore (1752–April 14, 1821) was an American lawyer and politician from Lexington, Virginia. He represented Virginia in both the U.S. House (1789-97, 1803-04) and the U.S. Senate (1804-1809).
and his Crespi High of Encino boys' basketball team talked about winning six championships this year: three tournament, a league title, a Southern Section and a state.

As for the state championship, Crespi took a step in that direction Tuesday with a win over Lincoln Academy Lincoln Academy is a small, independent secondary school located in Newcastle, Maine. Now it gets a little tougher.

The Celts tonight play the No. 1-ranked Division IV team in the state in Bakersfield Garces (26-0), which hopes to end its own dream season with a state title.

Game time is at 7:30 and local fans who wish to make the trip are urged to buy their tickets at Crespi High today rather than waiting to get one at the game, which is at Centennial High in Bakersfield.

Garces attracts big home crowds and there is a good chance tickets will not be available at the game.

``I'd hate for people to make a long drive and get turned away, but that very well may happen,'' Crespi (24-7) coach Dick Dornan said.

Dornan has bigger concerns than tickets and rowdy fans, of which he'll see plenty. Garces is a fast, athletic team that likes to press, run the floor and pound teams in transition.

``It's going to be a big test, especially going up there, but I feel good about it,'' Dornan said. ``Not so much because who we're playing but because of us. I can't say how proud I am of my players; they're a team of destiny. I think we can find a way.''

--Angel power: Crespi center Paul Angel didn't play basketball as a freshman and wasn't on the varsity last year. He averaged only four points a game this season but contributed plenty against Lincoln, scoring 14 points and providing a presence inside the paint.

``He's come along faster than any player I've ever seen,'' Dornan said. ``He's smart, he knows his role and he plays hard. He's been our unsung hero all year.''

--Rematches: Two local girls' teams play once-vanquished opponents tonight. Harvard-Westlake (27-5) plays host to Rosary rosary [rose garden], prayer of Roman Catholics, in which beads are used as counters. Top-seeded Harvard-Westlake defeated fifth-seeded Rosary in the semifinals 64-59. In that game, the Wolverines broke the Rosary press and overcame an 11-point deficit in the first half, then went on a 12-0 run in 2:59 to take a 58-51 lead late in the game.

Oak Park, the third seed, defeated seventh-seeded Morro Bay 71-64 in last week's Southern Section Division IV-AA final, thanks to balanced scoring. It built a 61-43 lead before Morro Bay came back.
