``We're a great hitting team, but our pitchers need to step it up,'' Berrington said before his team's game against Crespi on Saturday. ``All season long, we've fallen behind and we had to rely on our hitters for us to come back. We need a pitcher to be solid so we can jump out early. We need him to go out and pitch well for a couple of innings INNINGS, estates. Lands gained from the sea by draining. Cunn. L. Unfortunately for Berrington, the Warriors' pitching woes continued as Crespi, ranked No. 3 by the Daily News, tapped Westlake starter Jake Pullen for four runs on six hits in just three-plus innings en route to an easy 5-2 win in a nonleague game at Westlake.

``I felt really good out there,'' Leveque said. ``My curveball especially was working really well. It had good pop on it. I was changing the speed of the pitches really well and just felt great.''

Leveque, who was aiming for the outside corner throughout most of the afternoon, had no trouble finding the strike zone. He threw 86 pitches, 55 for strikes.

``He's got pretty good command on his pitches,'' said Crespi coach Scott Muckey, whose team recently clinched the Mission League title and has now won four of its past five games. ``He throws real hard. He's a level-headed kid.''

Tim Matthews had a three-run homer in the fourth inning for the Celts.

For the Warriors (13-10), ranked sixth by the Daily News, this game was a chance to see if it was ready to handle potential postseason competition.

``The reason why I put this game on our schedule is because Crespi is a team that's a playoff play·off also play-off
