Power based its satisfaction study on a survey of 10,540 credit card holders, focusing on 22 major issuers and 54 separate credit card products.

Discover Card rated tops in overall satisfaction among consumers who do not carry a monthly balance while Optima received the highest satisfaction rating among those who do carry a balance.

``Card holders are clearly making decisions as to which credit cards they are going to use and keep. There is a clear need to enhance satisfaction and loyalty,'' he said.

The key areas for satisfaction are customer service, a fair annual interest rate and the issuing company's reputation, March said.
