Available on all models of the HP iPAQ hx2000 series Pocket PCs, HP ProtectTools, secured by CREDANT Technologies, works smoothly with the varied security configurations of each model. Using HP ProtectTools, Mobile professionals can easily support their company's security policies, including strong authentication. For organizations that need to deliver two-factor authentication to protect sensitive data assets from unauthorized access, HP ProtectTools, secured by CREDANT Technologies, works in conjunction with the integrated biometric fingerprint reader on the HP iPAQ hx2700 to provide secure and easy authentication based on something the user knows -- a PIN or password -- and something they are -- a fingerprint.

To ensure authorized users can access their data -- even if they forget their PIN or password -- access can be regained by entering a secret answer to a pre-selected question. HP ProtectTools, secured by CREDANT Technologies, also provides a second layer of defense by encrypting sensitive information to ensure it remains confidential. A user can encrypt email, contacts, calendar, notes, My Documents and other files, which are then automatically protected whether stored on the device or an external storage card. In the event that a mobile device is lost or stolen, aggressive fail-safe actions can be automatically invoked to hard reset the device back to factory defaults after a pre-determined number of access attempts.
