(Nasdaq:CRAY) today announced that the company received its first order from Japan, valued at $3 million. The Japan Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (JAIST JAIST Japan Advanced Institute of Science and Technology ) has ordered a 128-processor Cray T3E-1200E(TM) MPP (Massively Parallel Processing or Massively Parallel Processor) A multiprocessing architecture that uses up to thousands of processors. Some might contend that a computer system with 64 or more CPUs is a massively parallel processor. system. The system is scheduled for delivery and customer acceptance in the fourth quarter of fiscal 2000. The Cray T3E-1200E order is part of a contract administered by system integrator Fujitsu for JAIST's Information Environment System. The system will be installed in JAIST's Center for Information Science, where it will be used to support leading-edge research in information science and other advanced scientific research. The Cray T3E-1200E computer system replaces an earlier Cray T3E-600 system sold by the former Cray Research See Cray. . "Our faculty and student researchers will use the more powerful Cray T3E-1200E system to promote basic and applied information science, including computational science," said Professor Teruo Matsuzawa, director of the Center for Information Science. "We are proud to be associated with JAIST and to support the world-class research faculty of the Center for Information Science," said Cray Inc.
