CRAY COMPUTER ANNOUNCES SUCCESSFUL BENCHMARKING OF ITS CRAY-3 SUPERCOMPUTER SYSTEM

 COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo., Jan. 25 /PRNewswire/ -- Cray Computer Corp. (NASDAQ: CRAY) announced today that it has run several industry standard benchmarks to demonstrate the performance of the new CRAY-3 supercomputer system.
 The current CRAY-3 system operating at a clock speed of 2.08 nanoseconds (480 MHz) with 64 MWords of SRAM memory is routinely running under CCC's operating system, CSOS, on a daily basis. This system is fully interfaced to CCC's internal computer network to facilitate further testing and benchmarking by CCC staff and will be available to a limited external user base in the near future. A high- capacity, high-performance RAID subsystem provides on-line disk storage via an industry standard HIPPI interface connection.
 The company has measured the following benchmark performance data for the CRAY-3 system. These figures are for a 480MHz single processor utilizing CCC's standard customer software product set. CRAY-2 data using the same software products is included for reference.

 All figures except ratios are Millions of Floating Point Operations per second (MFLOPS).
 Terry Willkom, president and chief operating officer, stated, "We are pleased with the benchmark performance of the CRAY-3 and are proceeding with the manufacture and checkout of four-processor systems. We are still anticipating a CRAY-3 demonstration system being made available to the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) in Boulder, Colorado by the end of the first quarter of 1993."
 The CRAY-3 is the first traditional supercomputer system whose logic exclusively uses Gallium Arsenide integrated circuits.
 Cray Computer is engaged in the design, development, manufacture and marketing of the CRAY-3 supercomputer system and the design and development of the CRAY-4 supercomputer system.
