Ermete Lambrusco Reggiano Secco "Quercioli," 2006 ($12.99)

This wine is a deep ruby with a purple rim. It sports a pleasant bouquet with violets and sweet herbal notes mingled with bramble bramble, name for plants of the genus Rubus [Lat.,=red, for the color of the juice]. This complex genus of the family Rosaceae (rose family), with representatives in many parts of the world, includes the blackberries, raspberries, loganberries, boysenberries,  and underbrush, and hints of smoke. On the palate, it's light and bracing, with clean red berry Red Berry may refer to:

Sant'andrea Moscato Moscato can have several meanings see:
  • Muscat (grape and wine)
  • Moscato, Judah (Italian rabbi, poet, and philosopher of the sixteenth century)
di Terracina Secco "Oppidum OPPIDUM Observation des Produits Psychotropes Illicites ou Détournés de leur Utilisation Médicamenteuse (Survey of drug abuse, France) ," 2005 ($16.50)

The jewel of this estate is without a doubt its range, based on the rare local grape, Moscato. Oppidum is made entirely from Moscato grown in Terracina, a town halfway between Rome and Naples. The name Moscato is quite often associated with "sweet" wine, such as Moscato d'Asti Moscato d'Asti is a DOCG wine produced mainly in the districts of Asti and in smaller nearby regions in the districts of Alessandria and Cuneo. The wine is sweet and low in alcohol, and often enjoyed with dessert. From the Moscato Bianco grape. . However, this wine has been vinified completely dry, yet has retained all of the typical wonderful Moscato aromas: citrus, honey, roses, apricots, herbs. Round on the palate, fresh acidity and a very nice length, it is ideal as an aperitif aperitif (·perˈ·  and excellent with fish or white-meat dishes.

Durigutti Bonarda, 2005 ($12)

This is a full-bodied wine from Mendoza, Argentina, with nice ripe, dark fruit. There's a hint of tobacco and a little bit of leather. This is definitely a meat-eater's wine and would go well with smoked meats, steak or lamb.

>WHITE OF THE WEEK

Kracher Illmitz, Pinot Gris, 2006 ($15)

The Austrian winemaker is primarily known for dessert wines, but this pinot gris is a very bright kind of light wine with nice acidity. It has a delicate flavor like nectarine nectarine (nĕk'tərēn`), name for a tree (Prunus persica var. nectarina) of the family Rosaceae (rose family) and for its fruit, a smooth-skinned variety of the peach.  and white flowers, with a little citrus tone. It's an excellent wine for this time of year, when it's still warm out but not at the height of summer. It goes well with seafood or light salads.>

This is a 100 percent malbec made by Hobbs, a premier cabernet winemaker in Napa. This special wine has been imported from his Mendoza property in Argentina. It's soft and mellow with lots of fruit; considered medium- to full-bodied. It pairs well with a number of meat dishes, specifically lamb or pork chops, and would be exceptional with grilled or barbecued meats.

>WHITE OF THE WEEK

Hawk Crest Chardonnay, 2005 ($14)

While the grapes were grown in California, it is a French-like chardonnay; dry, yet good with poultry or white fish. With aromas of white peach and lemon, the minerality makes it more French-like, and it works well with food. This is a medium-bodied white wine with notes of jasmine and oak spice.

Castano Monastrell, Spain, 2005 ($10)

This Rhone varietal is actually from the Yecla area of Spain. It is rich and smooth, with a hint of black pepper on the back end. Not a light wine, but great in the summer with anything off the grill, especially steaks and hamburgers, and it's even mellow enough for chicken.

Lolonis Fume Blanc, Mendocino, 2006 ($13.99)

This tasty little wine comes from the Redwood Valley in Mendocino, from organically certified vineyards. With a fruity flavor at the front end, it works quite well with any poultry dish.
