CRASHES LEAD TO SLOW DOWN PLEA.

 councillors yesterday urged motorists to slow down and drive with care over the festive period after a weekend of crashes.

A man was in hospital last night after a suspected drunk-driver is alleged to have caused a three-car smash.

A further four people - two men, a woman and a teenage girl - were also taken to hospital in the pile-up which occurred near the entrance to Derry City Derry City can refer to:
  • the Northern Ireland city of Derry and its local authority Derry City Council
  • Derry City F.C., a Football (soccer) club from Northern Ireland.
  • City of Derry Airport
 Airport shortly after midnight yesterday.

 suffered head and spinal injuries after the vehicle he was travelling in ploughed into a taxi injuring four people on the Belfast Road at Lambeg South, Co Down.

SDLP councillor for Lisburn Brian Heading said: "Both the police and community should be more vigilant as this type of crime will become more prominent over the Christmas period."

Elsewhere, three vehicles crashed at the junction of the Clooney and Ballygudden Roads at around 12.05am yesterday.

SDLP councillor Jim McKeever said: "I would be appealing for people to slow down and take care especially with more traffic on the roads in the lead-up to Christmas."
