CRASHES KILL 3, SNARL FREEWAYS.

A rash of crashes on Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  freeways Friday left three dead, numerous people injured and traffic jammed to a near standstill, in one case for much of the day.

Among the worst of it:

A woman was killed in a car-truck crash just after 2 p.m. in a Chatsworth intersection.

Six children and one adult were injured just before 7 a.m. in a wreck east of downtown Los Angeles Downtown Los Angeles is the central business district of Los Angeles, California, located close to the geographic center of the metropolitan area. ``It's just one of those Fridays,'' said Sgt. Steve Munday of the California Highway Patrol's West Valley office. ``What's happening today can't really be chalked up to any particular traffic pattern. The only time you really see that is when people are trying to get out of town on holidays.''

Police said an unsafe lane change by the big rig is suspected of being the cause of the Sepulveda Pass crash. William Axsum, 37, of Santa Monica was killed, coroner's officials said.

 Officer Giovanni Trejo said. The big rig made an unsafe lane change and hit the Jaguar, which spun into the path of the motorcycle, he said.

Details were not available in the fatal car-truck crash at Topanga Canyon Boulevard and Chatsworth Street.

In the bus crash on a transition between the Golden State and San Gabriel freeways, the six pupils, ages 11 and 12, received minor injuries, said Officer M. Lopez of the CHP's Central Division. They were taken to three area hospitals.
