CRASHES BLAMED ON GRAVEL SPILLS.

ACTON - Gravel spilled from a tractor-trailer was blamed for eight crashes on the southbound Antelope Valley Freeway The Antelope Valley Freeway is a freeway in Los Angeles and Kern counties in southern California. It is signed as California State Highway 14 along its length. It connects Greater Los Angeles to the rapidly developing Antelope Valley.  between Acton and Agua Dulce, California Agua Dulce (Spanish for sweet water) is an unincorporated community located in Los Angeles County, California just north of Santa Clarita. The big rig Big Rig was a punk band from the San Francisco Bay Area fronted by singer/songwriter Jesse Michaels. Michaels performed with the group after the break up of his previous project, Operation Ivy, and before forming the band Common Rider.  spilled gravel out of the bottom gate in its rear trailer near Soledad Canyon Road about 8:45 p.m. Thursday, then again about 10 miles farther south near Escondido Summit, officials said.

``It spilled gravel across all lanes of the roadway,'' said California Highway Patrol Lt. Andria Whitmer.

After the gravel spilled near Soledad Canyon Road, three cars went out of control and crashed, CHP CHP Chapter

 officials said. Two of the crashes caused minor injuries.

When more gravel spilled south of Escondido Summit, five more vehicles crashed. No one was injured.

Caltrans sent a snowplow to pick up the gravel.

Antelope Valley CHP officers said by the time they arrived at the wrecks near Acton the gravel truck was gone. They said they believe the driver didn't know he had lost part of his load.

Newhall CHP officials said Thursday that they could not say whether the truck driver had been stopped or identified after the second set of crashes.
