Colflesh was riding his 1979 Yamaha west on Avenue R when the driver of a Chrysler New Yorker stopped at the stop sign on Lemsford, then pulled onto Avenue R to make a left turn. Deputies said motorist Sergio Avilez, 41, of Palmdale told them he saw the motorcycle heading his way but believed he had time to make the left turn.

Colflesh applied the motorcycle's front brake and lost control, sliding into the Chrysler's left rear side, and was thrown to the pavement, officials said.

Officials said they believe the teen died on impact. Avilez was not injured in·jure

Investigators said alcohol and speed did not appear to play a part in the collision. Colflesh was riding at about the speed limit and was wearing safety equipment including a helmet.

Colflesh's friends said he was extremely careful on his new motorcycle.

``He was just in love with that bike,'' said one friend who asked that her name not be used. ``That's all he talked about. Some of us were really scared for him though. People just don't pay attention to their driving out here.''
