Witness Herman Mendoza, a trash collector who drives the roads of the industrial center every day, attributed the crash to a speeding trend he has seen in the area.

``Very often, what happens is that people are late and they try to speed through these roads. They come really fast,'' Mendoza said. ``I usually take a break at this hour because I know what's going on Verb 1. know what's going on - be well-informed

The posted speed limit on Mentry is 35 mph. Investigating officers said the Acura driver didn't appear to have been wearing a seat belt.
